Ölüdeniz (Blue Lagoon)

Ölüdeniz is a natural cove located south of Fethiye, at the foot of Babadağ, taking its name from its calm waters that almost never ripple. The phrase "Ölü Deniz" (Dead Sea) comes from the fact that the waters here remain still even in windy weather; this feature has made the cove a safe haven for sailors since ancient times. The Blue Lagoon, an arm of the cove, is the section separated from the sea by a sandbar, known for its shallow, clear waters, and is today protected within the boundaries of Ölüdeniz Nature Park.

The lagoon's water changes color from turquoise to deep blue throughout the day depending on the angle of light; this visual quality has made it one of the most photographed beaches in the world. Since the area also lies at the foot of Babadağ, one of the world's leading paragliding centers, paragliders gliding through the sky accompany the view.

Ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing, the Blue Lagoon continues to be one of Muğla's most renowned natural tourist spots, thanks to both its natural beauty and its surrounding national park status.
