Giresun Island, located off the Turkish coast of the Black Sea, is one of Giresun’s most remarkable natural and historical landmarks. Situated approximately 1.2 kilometers from the city center and covering an area of about 40,000 square meters, it is one of the few significant islands in the Black Sea that bears traces of past human settlement. It offers visitors a unique experience with its ruins dating back to antiquity, its natural vegetation, and its scenic sea views.
Archaeological studies conducted on the island indicate the existence of past habitation and religious activity. In particular, structural ruins—believed to date from the Byzantine era—highlight the island's historical significance. The island is also the subject of various legends associated with the Argonauts and the Amazons. Today, Giresun Island stands out as one of the city's iconic destinations, offering an atmosphere where history and nature intertwine, and it can be visited via boat tours.
