Now, I invite you to the Fatma Hanım Fountain, one of Giresun’s significant historical fountains that has survived to the present day. Located on Saydaş Street in the Seldeğirmeni Neighborhood, this fountain was commissioned in December 1923 by Fatma Hanım—the wife of Ömer, son of Hamza Baş—as an act of charity. Its inscription clearly states that the fountain was a charitable gift from Fatma Hanım.
Carved from a single block of marble, the fountain features a simple, rectangular façade. While the central stone panel and its inscription preserve the structure's historical legacy, its design—integrated with the garden wall of the adjacent house—reflects the neighborhood character of that era. Although no longer in use, the Fatma Hanım Fountain stands as a valuable cultural asset, serving as a reminder of the tradition of philanthropy and the neighborhood life of Giresun’s recent past. Standing here, we bear witness to the story of this fountain, which once served the city's daily life nearly a century ago.
