Halaçlı Mehmet Ağa Mansion

Halaçlı Mehmet Ağa Mansion is an important cultural heritage site that carries the memory of the Turkish War of Independence, rural ways of life, and the spirit of social solidarity during the founding years of the Republic into the present day. The role undertaken by Halaçlı Mehmet Ağa, after whom the mansion is named, during the War of Independence makes the building one of the significant landmarks in Ankara’s collective memory.

Construction of the mansion began in 1923 and was completed in 1929. With technical features considered advanced for its time, its architectural qualities, and the historical stories it preserves, the mansion is regarded as one of the distinctive examples of Ankara’s rural heritage.

Restored by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, the building has been brought back into Ankara’s cultural ecosystem as a center for cultural production and exchange. Today, Halaçlı Mehmet Ağa Mansion serves as a space that promotes traditional handicrafts, provides working opportunities for artists and researchers, and brings rural cultural heritage together with contemporary production through exhibitions, workshops, and educational programs.
